What should be the minimum TDS level for the drinking water

According to the BIS, the ideal TDS for drinking water is below 300mg/L and the max permissible limit is 600mg/L.

What is TDS ?

TDS = Total Dissolved Solids.  A lot of minerals are found in water, like Calcium, Magnesium, Chlorine, etc.

How much TDS is OK for humans ?

Threshold of acceptable human drinking water is 500 mg/l

1500 to 5000 mg/L TDS = Brackish water

> 5000 mg/L TDS = Saline water
